New Archaeology Evening Classes

Introduction to Archaeology: (Spring 2016)

  • 10 week course (2 hour sessions)
  • Commences 9th Feb 2016
  • Ends 28th April 2016
  • 7-9pm on Tuesday evenings at Orkney College (fieldtrips 6pm-8pm).

This new course, taught by leading practitioners and lecturers at the University of the Highlands and Islands Archaeology Institute, introduces the basic theory, methods and practice used in Archaeology. Key areas covered include a theoretical overview, basic research, chronology, environmental archaeology, landscape archaeology, finds, geophysics and excavation. The aim is to provide an over-view of archaeology and archaeological practice for general knowledge and volunteering.

The classes are workshop based, hands-on, thematic and will consist of two 1 hour slots. There are two fieldtrips.

Please note, the archive session is on a Thursday to make use of late opening at Orkney Library & Archive.
