TRANSECTS project opportunities for artists in north-east Scotland

The TRANSECTS project is seeking embedded artist(s) for three roles – Storylines workshops, walkshops and a mini-residency – to explore marine energy transitions and coastal community resilience in north-east Scotland.

The TRANSECTS project team from the University of the Highlands and Islands (UHI) would like to work with creative practitioners to explore the relationship between creativity and marine energy transitions from whale oil, oil and gas and renewables through time. Creative practitioners will work with coastal communities in north-east Scotland (Aberdeen, Fittie and Peterhead) to explore their role and understanding of marine energy transitions past and present, how we can learn from this to help plan better for the future and increase resilience.

There are three funded opportunities. Practitioners will work collaboratively with the TRANSECTS UHI team to co-deliver Storylines workshops (£2,000 budget), place-based walkshops (£3,000 budget) and will have the opportunity to explore the project themes with an artist mini-residency (£5,000 budget) in 2026–2027. Successful artists can undertake one, two, or all three of these roles.
