Dr Antonia Thomas, programme leader of the MA Contemporary Art and Archaeology was named Most Inspiring Lecturer in the awards, a partnership project between HISA and the UHI designed to recognise the very best practice in enhancing student experience.

The student-led awards celebrate those who have gone above and beyond in their roles, providing inspiration and support to the UHI community.

Antonia received multiple nominations:

  • “From the very first lecture it was clear that Antonia had a passion for the subject and that she could articulate and present this passion to us. The influences she introduced us to, the enthusiasm with which she speaks about both art and archaeology, and the faith she shows in the ability of her students is nothing short of inspirational.”
  • “Antonia has been an absolute inspiration to myself and my fellow students. I took the MA Contemporary Art and Archaeology (MACAA) as I wanted to explore creative methods for delivering archaeology and Antonia has supported and encouraged me unfailingly.”
  • “Antonia is such a force on the Contemporary Art and Archaeology Course. As course director she has a clear vision and is inspirational in gathering everyone along in her optimism and energy for the subject. She is always positive and encouraging, is clear, thoughtful and kind and during the four years I’ve been studying on the MA course, I have always enjoyed her teaching and found her to be helpful and interesting.”

Dr Jen Harland was Highly Commended in the Above and Beyond – Staff Award / Best Assessment Feedback / Most Inspiring Lecturer categories, while Rebecca Wicks was Highly Commended in the Best Professional Services or Support Staff category, for being a calming, helpful, kind and knowledgeable member of staff.”

Her nomination added: “Nothing ever seems too much trouble for her … Even though she has a workload of her own she makes time to make sure everyone is okay.”
