A group from the UHI Archaeology Institute travelled down to Inverness at the weekend for the 2025 Highland Archaeology Festival.
Pictured above, from the left are Martin Carruthers (UHIAI), Associate Professor Scott Timpany (UHIAI), Holly Young (UHIAI), Dr Ben Elliott (UHIAI), Dr Darroch Bratt (UHIAI alumni and now working for Historic Environment Scotland) and Dr Lucinda Dean (UHI Centre for History).
At the event, Martin gave a talk (along with ORCA’s Rick Barton) on Recent Findings and Updates from the Iron Age Excavation at Swartigill, Caithness. Holly covered An evaluation of the shell assemblages from Nybster Broch, Caithness, while Ben’s subject was Tarradale 2D: Middle Mesolithic lives on the Beauly Firth.
Scott closed Saturday’s proceedings with Forging Resources: an anthracological investigation of wood-fuel resources for Iron Age metalworking activity in Northern Scotland.
Our thanks to Lucinda Dean for the photograph.
