Five MA Contemporary Art and Archaeology graduates will be showcasing their work at the Northlight gallery, Stromness, from November 14-25, 11am to 4pm.
The exhibition, entitled Wider Than Living, features the creations of Diane Eagles, Harry Payne, Iain Davidson, Janet Tryner and Lara Band. It is the first time a group of MA Contemporary Art and Archaeology graduates have collectively exhibited their graduating work in Orkney.
The title alludes to the focus of the artists’ research into the agency of non-living materials, the overlooked and the intangible stories of objects.

“We’re really excited to have the opportunity to share our work in Orkney, where some of us have been studying for a number of years. Orkney is such an inspiring place, and it’s great to have the chance to share our ideas and work and highlight interdisciplinary post-graduate research,” said Iain Davidson.
Each day one or more of the artists will be in the gallery to answer questions. A workshop (date to be confirmed) and activities will be available for those who want to learn more.
The gallery is open 11am to 4pm but will be closed on Friday, November 21, for the UHI Orkney graduation ceremony in Kirkwall. An evening event, with artist talks, nibbles and wine is scheduled for the evening of Thursday, November 20, running until 8pm.
