Big news today – the Early Neolithic building has been fully revealed and is c. 19.5 metres long – this puts it on a par with Structure Five at the Ness of Brodgar and the conjoined Structures Three and Five at the Braes of Ha’breck, Wyre.
But it seems we’re also back to the Bronze Age with what appears to be a double-house constructed in the remains of the large Neolithic building. Regular readers will know that the trench was re-opened last year as part of the Northern Exposure project to investigate what appeared to be double-house Bronze Age architecture on site.
But in 2025, it became clear that the large building was not Bronze Age but dated to the Neolithic…so hopes are high that further excavation with confirm a double-house.
Last year, finds were few and far between but this season so far has produced flint and worked stone tools.
