Back on site today after a great weekend, including visiting the Sanday Show, and the weather was beautiful. We gave a public lecture on Sunday morning that was very well attended, which is nice as it shows lots of local interest – it was difficult to stop the questions too!
At last we have found the side entrance to the large Early Neolithic house. It had been carefully blocked with stone slabs. There are also indications that the Early Bronze Age structure, which lies inside the earlier building, has an outer wall that runs all the way around it – we will investigate this further tomorrow. If this is correct it will be very exciting as it will make the site a little like a Shetland house of similar date…
Lots of planning done today as we have taken advantage of the sunshine and low winds. Slowly but surely we are resolving the many questions this complicated site is throwing up and we have a new group of students, who are great, so everything is on track for an exciting final two weeks.
