The Orkney World Heritage Site Fieldwalking Project: Learning About Archaeology Amongst Orkney’s World-famous Monuments, has secured a £9,900 National Lottery grant to undertake archaeological fieldwalking in the Heart of Neolithic Orkney World Heritage Site Buffer Zone.
Discovering ‘Hidden Kirkwall’
The University of the Highlands and Islands Archaeology Institute is running the first in a series of projects in the Kirkwall Townscape Heritage Initiative. The project aims to involve local people in archaeology and discover a hidden Kirkwall.
Kirkwall Grammar School pupils’ Big Day Out
The Archaeology Institute UHI organised a “Big Day Out” for the whole of Kirkwall Grammar School S1 (125 pupils) visited the World Heritage main sites for the day on the 12th May 2015.
Archaeology talk to feature alongside ‘Songs of Hoy’ showing
The 1982 film Songs of Hoy, featuring the music of Sir Peter Maxwell Davies and starring the children of Hoy, is being shown on Friday, November 27, in the Hoy Kirk. There will also be an illustrated talk by Dan Lee on recent and planned archaeology projects in Hoy.
