Excavation Neolithic Ness of Brodgar

UHI Students reveal more of the ‘Great Wall’ at Ness of Brodgar fieldschool

Our two-week fieldschool at the Ness of Brodgar came to an end yesterday, with the students achieving, admirably, what site director Nick Card tasked them to do - open a trench extension and expose another section of the “Great Wall of Brodgar”.

Our two-week excavation fieldschool at the Ness of Brodgar came to an end yesterday.

The students achieved, admirably, what site director Nick Card tasked them to do – open a trench extension and expose another section of the northern boundary wall, aka the “Great Wall of Brodgar”.

Their work has added to the growing body of knowledge about the Ness complex – one more piece of a jigsaw that is being put together to understand this remarkable Neolithic site.

Although there was no sign of another set of steps on the outer face, the students revealed evidence of the monumental wall’s deliberate dismantling and its height.
