Some of our PhD students will give presentations on their ongoing research at an event at UHI Orkney on Thursday, September 10, as part of the second OAS Orkney Archaeology Festival.
The Emerging Research session, in the lecture theatre, begins  at 11am and will see talks ranging from Neolithic stone tools, Bronze Age cultivation, mapping landscapes, to early medieval burial and graves in 19-20th century Orkney.
The speakers are:
- Gary Lloyd: The life story of a cobble: What everyday stone tools reveal about Neolithic Orkney
- Logan O’Brien: Data, meaning and value in mapping vulnerable landscapes in Orkney
- Sophie Durbin: Accessing an aura – approaching burial in early medieval Orkney through remoteness
- Heather Leonard: “Islands lie behind the sun that I shall raise ere all is done”: Revealing island identities on Mainland, Orkney through grave markers and GPS mapping, 1825-1925.
- Julia Brunner: Cultivating the Bronze Age: Agricultural practices and climatic variability in Orkney and Ireland
The event is free and all are welcome.
