Visiting Orkney to officially open the Ness of Brodgar exhibition, we were delighted to show Professor Dame Mary Beard around the West Mainland today.

As well as visiting the Ness excavation site, Mary saw Skara Brae up close as well as the Earl’s Palace in Birsay, the Kirbuster Farm Museum, the Stones of Stenness, the Barnhouse settlement and Ring of Brodgar.

Mary and her husband, Robin, were hosted by Dr Siobhan Cooke-Miller (curator of archaeology at the Orkney Museum and a lecturer at the UHI Archaeology Institute), Professor Jane Downes, and Professor Colin Richards of the UHI Archaeology Institute.
