Tombs of the Isles – Rowiegar updated to include link to new human remains research paper

We've updated the entry for Rousay’s Knowe of Rowiegar to include a link to new research suggesting human remains were placed in the Neolithic cairn at different stages of decomposition.

We’ve updated the Tombs of the Isles entry for Rousay’s Knowe of Rowiegar to include details and a link to a new paper suggesting human remains were placed within at different stages of decomposition and pointing towards a more complex, muti-stage process for handling the dead.

All Mixed Up: Investigating Mortuary Practice and Processes of Disarticulation Through Integrated Histotaphonomic Analysis at the Knowe of Rowiegar, Neolithic Chambered Cairn, Orkney, UK, by Tierney Tudor, Rebecca Crozier and Richard Madgwick, was published in the Journal of Archaeological Method and Theory in December 2024.
