A BBC Radio Four radio programme looking at the history of Rousay is now available on BBC Sounds.

The episode of Open Country features Professor Ingrid Mainland, Dr Jen Harland and Dan Lee talking about the Skaill farm excavation and the LIFTE research project.
The present farmstead sits on a low mound containing multiple phases of historical activity. Geophysical survey revealed features below the surviving remains of the 18/19th century buildings that correspond to several earthworks, such as platforms and enclosures, visible on the ground surface.
And, in 2019, the remains of an 11th or 12th century AD Norse hall were revealed to the west of the farmhouse. The building, with substantial metre-thick walls, appears to be over 13 metres long.
The programme aired on Radio 4 at 3pm this afternoon and will be repeated on Saturday, April 19, at 6.05am and 6.15pm.
