Professors Mike Parker Pearson and Niall Sharples are among the speakers for our new season of free online seminars.

Our own Drs Sarah Jane Gibbon, Julia Cussans and Jen Harland get the ball rolling on Friday, January 30, with a look at Traders and Produce in Early Moden Orkney, outlining some of the finds from the LIFTE research project. The seminar runs from 4-5pm and we hope to have it recorded and put online afterwards. To join, via Microsoft Teams, click here.

On Friday, February 27, Professor Niall Sharples will look at Bornais and the Norse settlement of the Hebrides, looking at the archaeological evidence for the Viking incursions in the western seaboard of Scotland. (Teams Link)

Staying in the Western Isles, March 20 will see Professor Mike Parker Pearson present Life and Death in the Bronze Age: mummies, metalworking and much more at Cladh Hallan (Teams Link).

On April 24, Hana Bristow ACR will introduce archaeological conservation and the conceptual, ethical and practical issues involved in caring for archaeological material. Drawing on examples from Orkney and beyond, she will explore the professional judgement, ethical considerations and interdisciplinary collaboration that underpin this rewarding and uniquely challenging work, as well as examining what it means to preserve our archaeological heritage for future study and public engagement. (Teams Link)

More details of each seminar will be posted nearer the time.
