The first paper in the TRANSECTs project has been published.

Development of an interdisciplinary conceptual framework to understand marine energy transitions in North Sea coastal communities looks at how coastal communities have been shaped by marine energy industries over time – from whaling to oil and gas to contemporary renewable energy. It shows why past changes in coastal industries matter for understanding today’s challenges, including impacts on jobs, culture, identity and the local environment.

The authors propose a new way of studying these changes, bringing together environmental science, history, culture and community experiences, and call for future planning and decision-making to involve local people more closely, so that energy developments support fair, resilient and sustainable coastal futures.
