The UHI Archaeology Institute were delighted to welcome Professor Charles French,  Professor Emeritus in Geoarchaeology at University of Cambridge, last week.

Professor French was visiting to discuss and advise us on our new geoarchaeology/soil micromorphology lab, which is one of the new labs being set up as part of the RICHeS funded AEONS project. He was able to offer us invaluable advice on equipment and laboratory space and layout and has really helped us move this part of the project forward. He has also kindly agreed to become a member of our advisory board.

Professor French has a long and distinguished career in landscape and geoarchaeology and was awarded the British Academy’s 2022 Landscape Archaeology Medal.

As well as spending two days in meetings he had the opportunity to explore the Heart of Neolithic Orkney World Heritage site accompanied by Professors Jane Downes and Colin Richards.
