The impact of the Looking in from the Edge (LIFTE) research project is one of two highlighted by the AHRC funding body in their April newsletter.

LIFTE is a three-year programme involving the University of the Highlands and Islands Archaeology Institute, the University of Lincoln and the German Maritime Museum, in Bremerhaven.

Funded by the Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC) and the German Research Council, a key element of the project is involving local communities in all areas, so an exhibition is currently under way at the German Maritime Museum.

Entitled Immer Weiter – The Hanseatic League in the North Atlantic, the exhibition explores 16th-century trade relations between Hamburg, Bremen, Shetland and Orkney.
