
Postgraduate student Michael Zambon will give a talk on his research on the Conan Stone in Inverness tomorrow, Thursday, March 19.
Discovered by NOSAS members during a graveyard survey of an old chapel site at Logie Wester, near Conon Bridge, Easter Ross, the Pictish cross-slab dates from the 8th century AD, which was re-used as a gravestone in the late 18th century.
For his Masters by Research (MRes) degree Michael has been investigating the stone . His thesis now complete, he will sit his viva shortly.
The North of Scotland Archaeology Society (NOSAS) talk begins at 7.30pm in the St Ninian’s Church Hall, Culduthel Road, Inverness, and is open to non-members.
Michael’s MRes, entitled Not all early medieval stones are created equal: A further assessment of the Conan Stone, a Class II Pictish cross-slab, was funded by the UHI Archaeology Institute, the North of Scotland Archaeological Society (NOSAS) and the Scottish Society for Northern Studies (SSNS).
