Associate Professor Antonia Thomas was a keynote speaker at an international, interdisciplinary conference in Cork, Ireland, this week.

When Are We? Time in the Face of Contemporary Crises reflected on time in the context of global political, social and ecological crises and discussed how contemporary times shape our understanding of temporality. Antonia’s keynote lecture was entitled Postcards from Lake Orcadie: Geology, Graffiti, and Time in Orkney, Scotland, and used her research on inscriptions to explore the layered temporalities of landscape and place.

Also at the conference were members of the Prehistoric Policies project team (led by Dr Ben Elliott), with their presentation Pastwashing in environmental policy? The use of the deep time past in developing responses to our environmental crises.
