
The projects listed below welcome visitors. The sites can be muddy following bad weather so sturdy boots are recommended. Sites can also be closed if the weather is particularly inclement.
Ness of Brodgar Excavation

- The site is open to the public from 3rd July to 21st August
- The Orkney Archaeology Society Ness of Brodgar talk: The Appliance of Science will take place on 20th June in the Orkney Theatre at 7.30pm.
- Tours are available and archaeologists will be on site most weekdays. Please check the Ness of Brodgar Trust website for up to date information.
- Tours are also conducted at 1100 & 1500 on Saturday and Sunday during the dig season, but there will be no archaeologists on site during the weekend.
- Open Days are Sunday 21st July and Sunday 18th August

The Cairns Excavation

- The site is open to the public from 17th June to 12th July
- Tours are available and archaeologists will be on site most weekdays from 10am-4pm.
- Open Day will be 8th July. 11am – 4pm.

Skaill Farmstead Excavation

- The Skaill Farmstead dig is located on the island of Rousay and so you will need to take the ferry from Orkney Mainland. Check out the ferry timetable before you go.
- The site is open to the public from 8th July to 26th July
- Tours are available and archaeologists will be on site most weekdays.

Cata Sand, Sanday

- The Cata Sand dig is located on the island of Sanday and so you will need to take the ferry from Orkney Mainland. Check out the ferry timetable before you go.
- The site is open to the public from 28th July until 10th August
- Tours are available and archaeologists will be on site most weekdays.

Swartigill, Thrumster, Caithness

- The Swartigill dig is located near Wick in Caithness, Northern Scotland
- The site is open to the public from 19th August until 6th September
- The dig is quite difficult to get to and involves a bit of a trek over boggy and very uneven ground
- Tours are available and archaeologists will be on site most weekdays.
