As we’re sure you are all aware, out of necessity, we had to significantly reduce the scale of excavation at The Cairns this year, with only a small team of UHI Archaeology Institute staff and students present on the site.
We will soon be covering up the site to protect it for future work. Before then we would like to invite anyone interested in the project to come along for a tour and an update on the work undertaken this year.
On Wednesday, July 6, we will be running tours of the site at 10.30am, 1pm and 3pm and welcoming visitors.
The site is near Windwick Bay, South Ronaldsay, Orkney. Follow the sign to Windwick on the A961 between St Margaret’s Hope and Burwick (see map below).
Please be aware that if you intend to visit parking spaces are limited. Please look out for our staff members or students who will be able to advise you on the best place to park.
