Chambered cairn or not? Geophysics team survey Stronsay’s Cutter’s Tooer

Cutter’s Tooer – a suspected Neolithic chambered cairn in Stronsay – was geophysically surveyed by a team from ORCA this week.

As part of the Tombs of the Isles project, Chris, Kevin and Bobby were joined by local volunteers to investigate the site.

The cairn stood almost two metres high in the early 20th century but has been reduced in height over the years. In 1982, the stumps of two pairs of orthostats were visible, suggesting a stalled chamber aligned SSE-NNW.

The results of the survey, and those from Shapinsay and Rousay, will now be compiled and posted here in due course.
