The first in a series of events to launch a new project looking at the industrial heritage of Orkney’s North Isles takes place in Stronsay next week.
Commissioned by the North Isles Landscape Partnership, From peat spade to tangle trade: The industrial heritage of Orkney’s North Isles will explore sites of industrial heritage, setting them in inter-island and wider contexts.

The inaugural event kicks off in Stronsay on Tuesday, November 14, with a free talk from 7.30pm until 9pm in the New Hall. It will be followed by a drop-in session at 10am on Wednesday, November 15, at the Heritage Centre.
In the afternoon, Dan Lee and Sean Bell will be visiting industrial heritage sites across the island to plan future fieldwork. Anyone interested is welcome to join them.
Dan and Sean will be in Westray on December 5/6, at the Saintear cafe and Heritage Centre, and in Sanday on December 11/12, at Heilsafjold.
