The new year has seen some major additions to the UHI Archaeology Institute’s skeletal reference collection.

As well as new additions to the animal bone teaching assemblage, lecturer Dr Jennifer Miller has donated a collection of replica early hominin skulls.
The material was bequeathed to Dr Miller by her friend and colleague the late Professor Stuart McDonald, a forensic anatomist at Glasgow University.
The skulls are museum-quality models, cast from actual specimens using bone dust. The animal bones are a combination of real specimens and museum quality models.
These, together with Dr Miller’s own human bone reference collection, will significantly aid student learning and research potential.
