Another wonderful day!
As another wonderful day at The Cairns has gone by, with more progress made in the broch.
In the west room, Travis, Jem and Neil continued sampling while in the neighbouring north room, Thore has been finishing excavation around the hearth.

In the south-east room, Amanda has been working on an occupation deposit on the south side of the hearth. Additionally, Aspen has made a triumphant return to hearth 643, excavating a portion of the heat-affected central clay pad. In the north-east Room, Scott continued taking samples for soil micromorphology.

Bones and stones galore were found in the south room, where Emma and Ceiridwen have been taking samples from an occupation deposit. A small copper alloy object was also recovered from this material.
In Cell U1, Deborah may have found an antler with butchery marks and will continue excavation of this object. In addition, Ole, Sedat and Ron have been removing the rubble infill. Some exciting finds include stone tools, small animal bones and shell.

In the area adjacent to Cell U2, as a continuation of the broch wall, Isaac, along with Danni, Catherine, Dan and Nathan found a boar tusk, a pivot stone and cattle bone. In this area, Craig discovered a feature that may be contemporary with the broch. Holly spent the day in the souterrain (Structure F) taking geochemical samples.

Overall, today was a great day full of amazing finds and we all look forward to tomorrow!
